Ubisoft has just released an augmented reality spin-off to promote the upcoming Xbox release of Splinter Cell: Conviction, and it's the first time such a major developer has used the Layar platform for a game. Players will have a series of location-based missions that they will need to solve in Amsterdam.

15 April is het zover, Ubisoft komt met haar vijfde Splinter Cell uitgave, Conviction.
Splinter Cell, ooit meegeleverd bij de xBox (Ubisoft) de op één na grootste game-ontwikkelaar ter wereld). Ubisoft was op zoek naar een campagne om haar nieuwe release kracht bij te zetten (15 april). Ubisoft wil hiermee in het rijtje komen van andere first person shooters en overige games. Blutarsky en Muzar.org deden mee aan een pitch van Ubisoft en kwamen met een Splinter Cell level in de straten van Amsterdam, based on Layar.

Gate in Valetta (Malta) rebuild in 3D !
A gate on my desk
Together with her partners and Jean Paul Mifsud we recreated one of the old citygates of Valletta in Malta.
Based on a detailed 3D model we downsized this and made it downloadable in Layar.
These projects are near to the heart of Muzar.org. Making use of the 3D techniques within Layar and the knowledge of experts like Danny Dean we can make history come alive again.

VVV Zuid Holland start met VISAR
On february 24th the tourist promotion board of Zuid Holland Zuid (VVVZH) started with using the autogenerated QR codes produced by VISAR. Very soon to follow is the first VVV Layar of the city of Dordrecht.
The project manager at VVV Zuid Holland, Tjerd Kamphuis is fully in charge of both the Layar's and the QR codes.

Muzar op de ICT Delta 2010
Op 18 maart 2010 mag Jeroen Meijer tijdens de ICT Delta een presentatie geven over Location based services en het nieuwe platform daarvoor "VISAR".
ICTDelta2010 is een inspirerend en dynamisch festival op 18 maart 2010 in Beurs-WTC te Rotterdam. Wat is nieuw? Wat komt eraan? Hoe helpt ICT innoveren? Er is een grote markt vol prikkelende demo’s en een variëteit aan interactieve sessies. Met topexperts, gelauwerde onderzoekers en een keur aan ICT-starters.
ICTDelta2010 is voor iedereen die zich betrokken voelt bij ICT en innovatie; werkzaam bij bedrijven (ook buiten de ICT!), overheid, maatschappelijke organisaties, onderzoeksinstituten, universiteiten en hogescholen (ook studenten!).

Iedereen met een Google-Androidmobiel of een 3GS I-Phone kan de canon van Nederland nu letterlijk in zijn broekzak steken.
Met de 'canon-layar' die ontwikkeld is door www.muzar.org zijn alle 'plaatsen van herinnering' uit de entoen.nu-applicatie Op de kaart voor dit soort mobieltjes beschikbaar.
Download de Layar-app uit de Appstore, zoek op canon en alle canonieke locaties binnen een ingestelde range worden op het camerabeeld geprojecteerd, alsook de relevante informatie en links naar het betreffende venster op www.entoen.nu.
Zoals bijvoorbeeld het buitenhuis De Trompenburg in 's-Graveland, voormalig woonhuis van Cornelis Tromp, gezien door het venster Michiel de Ruyter - Nederlandse zeehelden.
De canon-layar bevat inmiddels een kleine 200 locaties en zal in de nabije toekomst verder uitgebreid worden.

Muzar at Inspiring cities
The 29th October 2009 was Inspiring Cities night in Amsterdam. Approximately 40 people talked, dreamed and laughed about possible applications for augmented reality browsers like for instance Layar. Apps people dreamed about varied from birdwatching apps - which basically would mean putting a GPS device on every bird...to an application for augmented freedom: just erase the things you don't like....

Canon van de Nederlandse Geschiedenis in een Layar

Forrester research on mobile Internet
On august 31 st 2009 Forrester published a report about the adoption of mobile internet in Europe.
Their main point is that now the critical mass is reached and it is kicking off.
The critical mass, ore more precisely the lack of it counts mainly for the underwhelming uptake of QR codes outside of Japan. It also has a lot to do with the poor quality marketing campaigns so far.

Also any museum or site can now "combine" their own guided tour, ie. point-2-point navigation.
